Boston Common
Wear comfortable shoes because the park is bigger than it looks, and you'll want to wander around without feeling sore later. Trust me on this one.
For a relaxed vibe, go early in the morning, like around 7 AM. You'll have the paths nearly to yourself, and the sunlight filtering through the trees is Insta-worthy.
Keep an eye out for free events or concerts. I stumbled upon a music performance during my visit that was totally unexpected and super enjoyable. Check out the local listings for what's happening.
New England Aquarium
Check out the feeding times for the penguins and sea turtles on their website. I missed the turtle feeding and regretted it—so tiny but so cute!
If you're parking, use the local garages nearby instead of the aquarium lot; it's often cheaper and easier to find a spot. I had a smoother experience once I switched to a nearby garage.
Make sure to explore the upper floors before heading to the main exhibits. I almost missed some really cool displays up there. It's worth it!
Arnold Arboretum of Harvard University
I learned the hard way – don’t forget your sunscreen even if it looks cloudy. I got sunburned and it put a damper on my visit!
Southwick's Zoo
Get there right when the zoo opens at 10 am. You'll beat the crowds and have a better chance to see the animals active and roaming around.
The Charles River Esplanade of Boston
Check the event calendar before you go. Sometimes there are free outdoor concerts or activities happening, which can make your visit even more memorable.
If you can, visit in the late afternoon around 4 PM. The sunset views are stunning and it’s less crowded than earlier in the day.
Franklin Park
Check out the zoo while you’re there! It’s included in the admission price, and I was surprised to see some cool animals I hadn't expected. Just plan a little extra time for that.
The Franklin Park Zoo
I recommend going on a weekday if you can, it was way less crowded and I got to see the animals up close. Plus, it’s easier to take photos without a bunch of people in the way!
I think you should definitely check out the feeding times. We saw the giraffes being fed, and it was such a cool experience. Make sure to ask the staff for the schedule
Christopher Columbus Waterfront Park
I think walking along the waterfront path at sunset is the best part; the views are stunning, and it’s a perfect photo op. Don’t miss it around 6:30 pm!
Boston Harbor Islands State Park
I recommend grabbing a bike rental if you want to explore. The trails are super fun and I feel like I saw way more than just walking. Plus, you can cover more ground in less time.
Mendon Town Beach
I think the morning hours are the best time to visit, like around 9 AM. The beach was nice and not crowded, plus we snagged a great spot and could enjoy the calm waters before the crowds came in.
I recommend bringing some bug spray if you plan to hang out by the playground. It was really pretty there but a bit buggy when we visited. You don't want those little pests ruining your fun.
