I think it's a good idea to check the weather before you go. Wet days can make the experience less enjoyable, and it might be worth rescheduling.

If you can, go on a weekday morning, around 10 AM. It was much quieter then and we got some great views without the crazy crowds.

I think visiting during mid-afternoon, around 2 PM, is the sweet spot. The crowds were lighter and I got more personal interaction with the conductors, who were super friendly and knowledgeable!
