Coliseum

If you can, visit the Palatine Hill first. I did it the other way around, and all that walking on the hill exhausted me before the Coliseum. The views are amazing too!

Don't forget to bring water. I thought the cold drinks at the entrance would be enough, but they were super overpriced! A refillable water bottle is a lifesaver.

My advice is to download the App that offers the audio guide. I did it and it's way cheaper than hiring a guide. You’ll get all the info you need without breaking the bank.

Try to time your visit around lunchtime, like 2 PM or so. The light outside is stunning for photos, plus the crowds thin out a bit after the lunch rush.

Make sure to wear good walking shoes. The cobbled streets are tough on your feet. I didn’t realize how much walking I’d be doing and regretted my sandal choice!

Look out for toilet facilities before you get too deep into the ruins. I totally forgot and had to retrace my steps back to the entrance which wasted quite a bit of time!

I recommend taking your time in the frescoed villas. They’re stunning, but also busy. If you can, go on a weekday for a quieter experience - I went on a Saturday, and it was packed!

Pack a bottle of water and some snacks. There are a few places to eat, but I found it cheaper and more relaxing to munch while exploring. Plus, sitting in the shade with a snack is a perfect break!
Archaeological Site of Grotte di Catullo

i think bringing a water bottle is super important. there aren't many places to buy drinks inside, and you’ll want to stay hydrated while exploring.

If you're planning to do a little souvenir shopping, skip the main entrance shops... I found better prices in the little stores just outside the site

I suggest getting there right when they open at 8:30 AM. The crowds are way smaller, and you can take stunning photos without a bunch of people in the background.

My advice is to wear comfortable shoes. The site has some uneven paths and a lot of walking, which can be a bit tough if you’re not prepared
