Great Sand Dunes National Park

If you're looking to save some cash, consider packing your own snacks and lunch. The food options around the park are kinda limited and pricey. I brought a cooler, and it was super handy after a long hike!

I suggest checking the weather ahead of your visit. Sandstorms can pop up, so if you notice winds picking up, it might be better to wait it out or reschdule your trip. Not fun getting blasted by sand.

I think you should bring plenty of water, like a gallon each, especially if you're hiking on hot days. Dehydration can hit you faster than you think, and trust me, you don't want to find yourself in that situation!

My advice is to wear sunscreen, even if it's cloudy. The sand reflects a ton of sunlight, and I regretted not lathering up more. I ended up with a nasty sunburn that took days to heal.
Oceano Dunes State Vehicular Recreation Area

I think it's worth checking out the tide schedule before your trip. Certain areas can get flooded, limiting where you can ride – better to be prepared!

If you're planning to rent ATVs, book in advance to avoid the last-minute rush. It's way cheaper than renting on-site the same day!

I recommend arriving early, around 8 AM, to snag a good parking spot and beat the crowds. The sunrise over the dunes is stunning too!

Bring plenty of water and snacks because the place is huge and options inside are limited. You don’t want to end up super thirsty!
Imperial Sand Dunes

My advice is to wear sunglasses and a bandana. The sand can be super blinding and gets everywhere! I wish I had done this instead of wiping sand off my face all day

I think it's a good idea to rent your ATVs ahead of time. I waited too long, and by the time I went to find one, they were all booked out for the day. Save yourself the hassle.

I suggest bringing plenty of water and snacks. The heat can really sneak up on you, and buying food on-site can drain your wallet! I spent way too much at the snack stand.

I recommend visiting early in the morning, like 7 AM. The dunes are way less crowded, and the sunrise is stunning! Plus, you can beat the blazing sun later in the day.
