Glacier National Park

Pack your own food and drinks for the day. Eating in the park can get pricey, and trust me, those sandwiches taste better with a stunning view!

Consider getting a National Park Pass. If you’re hitting multiple parks, it’ll save you bucks. I regretted not doing it sooner during my trip!

Check out lesser-known trails like the Hidden Lake. It’s less busy than Grinnell Glacier but just as breathtaking. Avoid the masses! You breath better in peace!

Pack layers! Weather changes fast – sun, rain, even snow! I didn’t believe it at first, but people were right about that. Be ready for anything!
Glacier Point

Get there for sunrise or just after! The early morning light on the cliffs is breathtaking, and you’ll avoid the big crowds that pile in later, especially on weekends.

Check the shuttle schedule if you're relying on public transport. It can be unpredictable, and I ended up waiting a lot longer than planned before the next one arrived.

If you plan on doing the photography thing, bring a tripod. I regretted not having mine for those perfect lighting shots at dusk.

Bring a refillable water bottle. There are few spots to buy drinks up there, and trust me, it’s a hike to those overlooks—stay hydrated without spending too much!
Exit Glacier

Wear sturdy shoes, especially if you plan to hike up to the glacier. I wore regular sneakers and regretted it halfway up the trail!

Bring snacks and water – the hike can be a bit longer than you expect, and having a picnic at the viewpoint was one of my favorite experiences! It saves money too!

Check out the visitor center first for info on the best trails. I almost missed the stunning views on the more challenging routes because I didn't do this!
Mendenhall Glacier
Bring snacks! Trust me, after a few hours of exploring, you'll be super hungry, and the food options there are pricey and limited.

You don't need to book an expensive tour. I found that just hiking the trails was a way better experience and way cheaper!

if you're tight on time, skip the visitor center and head straight to the trails. the views are epic, and you'll save some time for the good stuff!
Davidson Glacier

My advice is to check the weather beforehand. It can change quickly out there! I got soaked unexpectedly, which wasn't fun during my hike.

I suggest bringing plenty of water and snacks; there aren’t many places to buy food nearby. I ran low on energy, and it was tough to find something to eat

I recommend visiting around 10 AM to beat the crowds. I went later in the afternoon, and it was packed! Way better experience when it's less busy.
St. Mary's Glacier

Bring layers! The weather can change like crazy up there. I was freezing in the morning and then sweating by noon. A light jacket and some sunblock saved my day!
My advice is to start your hike early, around 7 AM. You’ll beat the crowds and catch some fantastic morning light for photos. Plus, the vibe is just so much more peaceful!
Portage Glacier

I suggest hitting the trails early, around 8 AM, to avoid the crowds and snag some epic views of the glacier without tons of tourists around. Trust me, it makes a big difference.

Be prepared for changing weather! I wore too light a jacket and regretted it. Layering is key, especially in the afternoon when the winds can pick up.

I think getting the Portage Lake Cruise is totally worth it... The views of the glacier up close are jaw-dropping, but book ahead to save yourself some hassle!
Saint Mary's Glacier

make sure to pack some snacks and plenty of water. there are some lovely spots for a picnic up there, and you don’t want to waste time hiking back down just to grab a bite.

I recommend getting there before 9 AM if you can. The parking lot fills up quickly and you might have to park far away, which means more walking before the hike even starts.

Dress in layers! The weather can change super fast. I made the mistake of wearing just a t-shirt and ended up freezing at the glacier.
Matanuska Glacier

My advice is to wear sunglasses on the glacier. I didn't bring mine and regretted it—the glare from the ice was intense.

I recommend getting there by 9 AM to beat the crowds. It was beautiful and quiet in the morning, plus the lighting for photos is way better!

I think it's worth packing a lunch. The snack bar there is decent but overpriced, and sitting on the glacier with a sandwich is cool for sure!

If you're planning to rent gear for ice climbing do it ahead of time online. I found it cheaper and more convenient than renting onsite where they seemed a bit short on sizes!
Worthington Glacier

Bring your own snacks and water! The food options nearby are pretty limited and can be pricey. I saved a bunch by packing a picnic that I enjoyed while taking in the views.

Check the weather before you go. It can change quickly up there, and having a waterproof jacket can save you a wet day. I learned that the hard way.

Don’t forget your camera, but also make sure to have a good pair of binoculars! The wildlife around the glacier can be amazing, and I regretted not having a better view of the distant mountains.
