White Pass and Yukon Railway

I suggest booking your tickets online in advance. The lines can get long, especially during peak seasons, and you'll save time and get better seats.

My advice is to bring a light jacket even if it’s sunny in town. It can get surprisingly cold on the train, especially in the higher elevations
Great Smoky Mountains Railroad

I think if you can, sit on the left side of the train for the best mountain views. I missed some great photo ops sitting on the right!

Bring a light jacket, even in summer. The air conditioning can be pretty chilly once the train gets moving, and you might regret not having it.

I recommend arriving at least 30 minutes prior to your departure time. The smaller train station can get crowded and you don't want to miss your train!

I suggest booking your tickets online ahead of time, it saves you a ton of time waiting in line. Plus, they often have discounts for online purchases which is a nice bonus!
Blue Ridge Scenic Railway

I recommend booking your tickets online to avoid long lines on the day of your visit. It saved me a lot of time and stress!

Check out the train's schedule in advance. I found the 10:30 am ride to be less crowded, which made for a more relaxed experience.

Bring a picnic! There are lovely spots in the park area where you can enjoy your snacks during the stop, and it’s way cheaper than the café.
Angels Flight Railway

I think it's totally worth riding Angels Flight both ways! The views are so lovely, and it gives you a chance to snap photos from different angles. Plus, you'll get the full experience of this historic funicular.

My advice is to take a stroll around Bunker Hill after your ride. There's a lot of cool art and interesting spots to explore, which makes for a great combo with your trip up the hill.
If you're planning to visit on a weekend, get there by 9 AM. It gets crowded fast, and you don’t wanna waste time waiting in line.
Grand Canyon Railway

I think packing your own snacks will save you money. The food on board was decent but overpriced. I brought some trail mix and it kept me energized!

My advice is to sit on the left side of the train for the best views heading towards the canyon. You won't regret the stunning landscape!

I recommend arriving at least 30 minutes before your train departure. It gets busy, and you don't wanna rush through the check-in process. Plus, there are some cute shops to explore!
Cumbres and Toltec Scenic Railroad

If you can, try to sit on the left side of the train for the best views as you go up through the mountains. My advice is to switch seats during the ride so you experience both sides!

Pack some snacks and drinks! The onboard options can be pricey, and you don't want to miss out on the beautiful views while waiting for food vendors at the longer stops.

I recommend buying your tickets online in advance to save some money and secure your spot, especially during peak season. We almost missed out because it was packed when we arrived!

I think you should aim for a midday departure around noon. The lighting for photos is much better, and you'll get to experience the sunset while coming back, which was a highlight for us!
New Hope Railroad

My advice is to bring snacks or a picnic. The snacks on board were kinda pricey for what you get. Plus, it’s nice to munch while enjoying the scenic views!

I suggest taking the earlier train around 10 AM. Parking fills up fast, and I ended up walking a bit. Plus, the morning light is perfect for photos of the beautiful countryside!

I think you should consider going on a weekday if you can. The crowds were way lighter when I visited, and it felt more relaxed. Weekend rides can get pretty busy!

I recommend checking the schedule in advance for special events or themed rides, like the wine train. It adds a fun twist, and tickets sell out fast! Trust me, I missed out on one because I didn't plan ahead.
Polar Express Station

Try to catch the 5 PM train on weekdays—it’s less crowded, and you can snag better seats for the scenic views without breaking a sweat.

i recommend booking your tickets online in advance to avoid long lines at the station. trust me, it saved me a ton of time!
Durbin & Greenbrier Valley Railroad

I suggest booking your tickets online a few days in advance to save a few bucks; they often have discounts that aren't available at the station... Trust me, it's a nice little win!

I recommend grabbing lunch in Durbin before boarding; the local spots have great eats and you don’t want to be stuck eating overpriced train snacks
Train of Lights

I recommend booking your tickets online in advance to dodge those long lines at the station. Trust me, it saves a ton of time.

If you're there during the holiday season, go for the evening rides around 6 PM. The lights look way more magical after dark, and you get to soak in the festive atmosphere.
